Little Stony Point

Yes, it is!!!

Breakneck. Today it did look like the U.S.'s most popular trail

Mighty Storm King

If you are ever in the great Hudson River town of Cold Spring, walk a half mile north out of town. There is a parking lot on the left on Route 9D. A quick little walk will bring you to the river with magnificent views of Storm King and Breakneck. The reward to effort ratio is extremely high.

  1. All those times I'd been to Cold Spring and to hike in the Hudson Highlands, and I never checked out Little SP. Always wondered what was there. I heard that you can swim there. Is this true? Not sure I'd want to swim in the Hudson anywhere south of Troy. Was there much litter?

One time I was by the river in Cold Spring, and there was an older Italian guy crabbing off the docks. I was surprised because there was a sign right there advising not to eat the crabs. I asked if he had any concern about PCBs in the crabs. He told me 'nah, it's good for you. I don't worry.'

Almost every time I'd go to Nyack Beach State Park, there would be Mexican families fishing. Sometimes they'd bring home a whole bucket of yellow perch. Can't be good to be eating that much fish from the lower Hudson, especially for children. A shame that our greatest resource for nutritious food has been spoiled all around the globe. Thanks capitalism. Thanks big business. Thanks pols. Thanks sheep.

  2. It is a real shame. Now there are fish farms. Brilliant!

As for swimming, I don't know. I'm sure you can, though. There was a (kind of) beach. Although it didn't look like much of one with all the blow down and drift wood from Irene.
