Fawn's Leap Cliff Jumping and Kaaterskill Falls

The scene at Fawn's Leap

Check out the jumper in mid air!!!

Barely a trickle

An almost dry pool

Remnants of Irene

The VPo Man and I set out to Kaaterskill Creek and Fawn's Leap.  On approaching Fawn's Leap we could hear loud crashes, the sound of jumpers making a plunge into the water below.  A couple jumpers let me know a cop was giving me a parking ticket.  After giving me a hard time, the copper let me go and find a more legitimate parking spot.  Once parked, we walked down the road.  For two and a half hours I watched   jumper after jumper, saying to myself, "I'll jump after this one."  Even after watching two young girls jump(in their single digits no doubt), I did not get the nerve to.

Finally I did, and what an experience it was.  A feeling of complete helplessness came over me and my arms moved uncontrollably.  My feet then crashed into the water and gently touched the bottom of the pool.  On this hot day, the cool water felt so, so refreshing.  As I swam, the nerves slowly vanished.  I felt so happy to have finally done it.

Watch here, as Chris Hiker becomes Chris Jumper.

After watching over a hundred jumps, VPo and I headed up to Kaaterskill Falls.  Barely a trickle, the Falls looked the least impressive that I can recall.  Nevertheless, it's still a great sight.  We calmed our fears and ventured up the loose scree to find a beautiful pool in between the two falls.  Plenty of people out on this day.  Can you blame them?
