The Majestic Plattekill

The VPo Man said it best, "This is the best swim hole I've ever been to."

A nice forest walk to start the day

One of many killer swimming holes

Supposedly, the site of pagan rituals

One of many newts I spotted

The VPo Man checking out the water

A little flower growing out of the rocks

Many millipedes out on this day

Just an absolutely, gorgeous place

The VPo Man thought so too

The narrow, rugged Plattekill

The VPo man gives this spot a big thumbs up to this spot

"Zion-esque"

This frog can't wait for us to leave

The Plattekill is one of those place you can keep coming too.  It's no wonder this was a favorite jaunt of the Hudson River School artists.  Today the VPo Man would accompany for the walk down this splendid piece of water and rocks.

A clear path through forest leads to the Plattekill from the base of Platte Clove Road.  In about 5 minutes, we came upon the first waterfall and swim hole.  This one I like to call Fawn's Leap Jr.  It looks similar, but a bit lower.  It also appears to be a nice spot for cliff jumping.

We then ventured on from here, admiring the beautiful waterfalls we came upon.  I could not help but notice the area so full of life.  Mosquitoes congregated above the water.  Fortunately, they were not too much of a nuisance.  The sound of splashing from frogs jumping into the water was constant.  We must have spotted a dozen or so.  I also came upon a few newts.  All this wildlife may convert me to a real appreciation for summer hiking.

We made our way across the slippery, wet rocks.  The VPo man observed the area as being "Zion-esque."  I replied, "it's Hawaii-esque."  Anyway, it's a wonderful place.

  1. What a place that looks like. Can't wait to try it. The blue-green color of the water is beautiful- definetely looks very tropical.
