The Plattekill

This would be a very spontaneous trip here today.  While moving my stuff out of my storage unit, I've passed close by here many times during the past week.  As I headed home, I realized I was passing by again.  Except this time, I stopped and went in.  I'm sure glad I did.

I don't know what it was about today, but I enjoyed it as much (if not more) than the first time I'd been here.  The Plattekill appeared to be running quite well.  Lots of frogs were jumping about.  I even spotted some fish.  Not sure what kind would be up in here.
Nice woods walk to start

Also as I made my way up the stream, I smelt and saw some smoke.  Eventually I came across a guy who had a fire going along the creek.  Unfortunately, this time I did start to notice a lot more camping areas with a lot more garbage.  It may soon be time to regulate this area.  Too many slobs are coming through here.

Nice, but pack out the trash

I then came to the first of my favorite waterfalls.  They are known as the Honolulu Falls.  I noticed a couple people swimming.  Of course, I then notice two people walking up the cascades to the right.  They were naked.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.  But I couldn't help but think of  the Seinfeld episode distinguishing between good naked  and bad naked.  This most certainly was bad naked.  But I also couldn't help but be a bit envious I didn't have a girl to jump in with naked.  I waved goodbye, hoping they would be gone when I returned.

Great place for a swim

I then made my way to the last waterfall of the day and probably my favorite.  It's an excellent swimming hole with cliffs rising from three sides.  I decided to take a little swim and was amazed at how warm the water was compared to the last time I was here.  It must be that later in the year, the water is a bit warmer.

Yes, those are chimes

This might be my favorite spot

  1. That place is so nice(with the exception of the naked people). We have to get back there soon and finish it. We only were able to see a few of the waterfalls last year because of a lack of time. And, yeah something needs to be done about assholes dumping their garbage. I'm starting to notice it more and more up at Minnewaska too. Disgusting.
