Kaaterskill Falls

I've been to Kaaterskill Falls countless times, but very rarely has the water flowed as lightly as today.  I do recall one time the upper part of the falls being barely noticeable, but most times the Kaaterskill is roaring.

There were quite a few people out taking advantage of the weather and the best time of year for hiking.  Though we are still another week before peak foliage, there were definitely some great colors to be found.

The half mile walk follows the Kaaterskill before ending at the base of the falls.  It's a fairly easy walk, but the trail did get washed in sections from Hurricane Irene.

The fun part is the little off-trail scramble to the base of the upper falls which happens to be the more picturesque of the two.  To make things even better, the trickiest section of this scramble now has a rope to help people by.

  1. I took a ride up in early August. The falls were flowing pretty good on that day. We haven't had much rain here in the HV in the last few weeks. Nice photos and good pretty good colors so far.

  2. Looking at the pictures, the nostalgia of the smell of detritus in the fall made me yearn to be in the eastern forests.
