Manhattanhenge July 2012

I read about Manhattanhenge a couple months ago and thought it'd be a cool idea to head down and check it out.  The setting sun aligns with the streets' grid twice a year, approximately 3 weeks prior to and after the summer solstice.

Laura and I arrived about an hour before sunset to an already large gathering of sun worshippers (in this case it was a gathering of photography geeks).  The spot I chose most likely is the most popular spot to view Manhattanhenge.  A bridge crosses 42nd street on Manhattan's west side providing views across to New Jersey and of the Chrysler Building.  Unfortunately, the large crowd took some enjoyment out (Chris Hiker hates large crowds unless a mosh pit is involved) and the haze destroyed any hopes of a magical sunset.
