Before I check out of the Hudson Valley, I wanted to see the NYC skyline. I looked at the map of New Jersey and saw that High Mountain State Park looked promising. Despite the haze, there were great views of the city.
There are about 10 miles of trail here and I walked about 4 miles in a little less than 2 hours. There was a nice little ascent of 500 feet. With it's close proximity to Patterson, there was expectedly some trash and broken bottles. But still, worse could surely be expected.
The trails run through a pretty, open hardwood forest. I'm sure this place is full of color come fall. The highlight of this park is the summit of High Mountain with it's commanding views of NYC. The skyline is visible from the Bronx all the way to Jersey City.

Where is that park? I don't think I've ever been there.
ReplyDeleteAbout a week after 9/11, I remember going to Garrett Mountain which is in Patterson. I'll never forget looking at the NYC skyline and seeing the black smoke still rising from Lower Manhattan.
The observation deck at One World Trade Center isn't supposed to open until 2015. It's crazy how long it took to rebuild there.
