Des Moines, IA
I made another stop along the way to Chicago. My back bothered me enough to stop and take a little walk around.
From I-70 I could see the capitol building. It's too bad it was late and I just didn't have much time to walk around and check out more of this city. I didn't think much of coming here, but after seeing the capitol building and a better than expected skyline, I thought differently.
Unlike most of the U.S. State Capitals, Des Moines is the largest city in Iowa. At over 200,000 it's a fairly reasonably sized city. There looked to be some nice urban parks along the Des Moines River. Too bad, since I'll most likely never pass this way again.
