Independence, MO
On my way to Chicago from Colorado, I couldn't pass this up. Home to one of my favorite presidents, Harry Truman, "you get the government you deserve" is truer today than when he spoke those words.
I went for a little walking tour in Independence. He lived here after leaving the White House. It's also where he dove into politics. Both he and his wife's childhood homes are located here as is the church where they married.
Unfortunately, I did not have time to go to the farm he lived at during his early adult life. His father passed away there thinking he was a failure. Little did he know his son would be a future president.
