Moraine Park

Moraine Park is like the Serengeti of Rocky Mountains National Park.  It's the go to spot to check out the elk during the rut.

Many times while on my way up the road for a hike, I had to pull the car over to watch the elk.  It's such an amazing sight watching the bull bugling and chasing after the cows.  While walking on a trail that cuts through the Moraine I watched a lone bull score a cow.  The bull who she drifted from had about 20 to keep track of so I imagine he felt he'd save some energy getting into it with another bull.  It was quite exciting to watch.

  1. This place looks perfect for setting up a lawn chair, sitting back, and watching the grazing elk. Other than watching them, I'd like to know what they taste like.

I had no idea that elk were restored to the Appalachians. I saw a video of some elk in Great Smoky Mountains park.
