Owls Head

Cascade and Pitchoff
I have passed the sign for this countless times on my way to the Adirondack Loj, Lake Placid and the Cascade trailhead.  Today I would not.

The 0.7 mile trail to Owls Head is near the top when it come to reward/effort ratio.  I should come up with a formula and rank them.  For sure, Owls Head will make the cut.

The trail does require about 500 feet elevation gain.  But I passed quite a diverse group of people making their way up.  More than a few elderly men and women (one with a cane) walked to the summit.  There were well dressed couples and a few with infants.  I passed a guy with a three year old.

Once on top, the views are amazing.  Close up views of Cascade and Porter to the south.  Giant and Hurricane are in view to the east.  I was pleased to see Hurricane still had its fire tower.  All of this for a very small price.
