Scarface

Scarface is another mountain located in the Saranac region and makes up part of the Saranac 6.  It can be viewed from the town to the southeast.

Scarface from Saranac
A four mile trail leads to the summit of Scarface.  Close to 2,000 feet elevation is gained in these miles.  The first part of the trail is quite pretty.  There are some lovely pines along the way.  It's mostly a dirt trail without many stones.  There are also some ponds and swamps where I saw a couple fisherman smoking cigarettes.  Consequently, I saw a butt on the ground a few hundred feet up the trail.  I have nothing against smoking, but why do so many feel they can litter wherever they want.

Beautiful tract of pines
The trail becomes quite steep about halfway.  Quite a bit of scrambling is necessary.  It's quite fun.  Eventually, this climbing leads to a somewhat obstructed view towards the Sawtooth Range and Ampersand Mt.  It would be the only views from here.  The trail leveled off and led to the evergreen covered summit.  There were a few herd paths at the summit that led to more trees.  Still it was an enjoyable early morning walk.
