Kodachrome Basin State Park

A special place

From near the campground

View from the road

Small rock formations such as these are to be found all over the campground

Food, beer.  All taste better after a day of hiking.

Contender for best camping spot ever

Venus rising above the Utah scenery

Full Moon setting in the morning light

I think the best time to see the moon is in the morning before it sets

The fabulous road in

How many see this sand pipe as me?  "Uh,huh, he said pipe! Huh,huh!"

The view from my camping spot

From the road you get a glimpse of the rock formations

I love a hazy-free blue sky

Some bad ass rocks

The view near the entrance

The dirt road that leads to the Shakespeare Arch Trail

I loved watching the moon set each morning

Although I'm happy I ventured out onto the trails (the only real way to get to know a place), you can enjoy Kodachrome by just staying in the campground or sticking to the road.

When I first arrived, I was in awe.  The road in was nothing short of spectacular.  It reminded me of how I felt when I first went to Arches National Park.  You just know you have found a special place.  After pitching my tent, I looked up at this huge sand pipe and thought, "That's an enormous c--- and b----! Beavis and Butthead should see this thing."  The ranger at Bryce told me they had stopped naming hoodoos because some of the named one's either change or crumble and disappear.  Maybe they also stopped naming the rocks because of the Beavis and Buttheads of the world.

  1. Shots two and eight are the best. Yes, that's exactly what it looks like. If, somehow, there were a few smaller rocks suspended in mid-air above that rock it would be even more amazing and funny. And, a gorgeous view of Venus engulfed in a beautiful purple night sky!!!
